Working with IMI

Get Involved – Join the Movement to Transform Medicaid

At the Institute for Medicaid Innovation (IMI), we know from experience that magic happens when we bring people together to improve the nation’s Medicaid program. In that spirit, our work is informed, guided, and supported by an exceptional group of funders and national experts representing academic and non-academic research institutions, advocacy and community organizations, clinician groups, Medicaid managed care organizations, state and federal policymakers, and, most importantly, people covered by Medicaid insurance and their families.

There are a variety of ways to join us in the movement to transform Medicaid:

Join a Project

We regularly initiate projects to address key issues in Medicaid. From engaging in our landmark survey work, to exploring the most effective ways to improve health outcomes for individuals, families and communities across the country, join us as we collaborate with some of the nation’s leading experts in creating a better future for people covered by Medicaid.

Be a Partner

We partner with a variety of national, local and community-based organizations to address critical issues impacting people with lived experience and those who serve them. At IMI, we know we can’t do this important work alone. If you are a potential partner organization, we invite you to reach out and explore how we can work together.

Become a Funder

IMI solicits and gratefully accepts external support in the form of restricted and unrestricted funding for activities that are aligned with our mission, vision, strategic priorities, and values. Support can be in the form of financial or non-financial/in-kind donations.

By donating, you:

  • Fund our ability to develop and implement evidence-based models of care that promote quality and equity.
  • Join a community of people who are dedicated to ensuring access to health care for all Americans.
  • Contribute to some of the most meaningful work taking place in Medicaid today.

Committees

You can also join the dozens of leading experts on one of our committees:

National Advisory Board

Our National Advisory Board is composed of a multi-disciplinary group of national leaders and experts representing the federal government, academic and non-academic research institutions, patient advocacy organizations, clinician groups, and Medicaid patients/families with extensive expertise in one or many areas of health services research, implementation science, Medicaid populations, health disparities, community engagement, and patient advocacy.  Learn more

Lived and Living Experience Matters Committee

IMI’s National Advisory Board leads a committee with dedicated representation from individuals from the community — community-based organizations and community workers — and those with lived experience. Community and equity has long been a strategic priority for IMI since our founding. The Lived and Living Experience Matters Committee amplifies our commitment to ensure those most directly affected by the Medicaid program have a voice in shaping our work.   Learn more

Medicaid Health Plans Committee

This committee is composed of dedicated representatives from Medicaid health plans, and brings together experts from health plans in the areas of Medicaid policy, clinical care and operations, data, and research.  Representatives from Medicaid health plans and individual market health plans reflect a mix of for-profit, nonprofit, and government-owned health plans.  Committee membership is being finalized. Project-Specific Committees

Project-specific, grant-funded national advisory committees (NACs) convene leaders and experts to inform current projects and create synergy across NAC members’ larger networks. Project-specific NACs will support projects funded by grants or contracts. They will be time-limited and will sunset once a project is completed.

IMI launched a national advisory committee (NAC) for the planning phase of its upcoming Doula Learning and Action Collaborative. The planning phase of the collaborative was funded by the Pritzker Children’s Initiative.

The three-year collaborative will support state-based teams committed to increasing access to doula services for birthing people of color who have Medicaid health insurance.  The NAC will provide overall guidance, consultation, and subject matter expertise to the project team during the planning phase.
