Toolkit Identifies Strategic Components to Support Health Equity in Medicaid

Washington, DC – The Advancing Health Equity project has released a new toolkit recognizing Medicaid’s critical role in advancing health equity through the development of strategic plans to address health equity.

To assist state Medicaid agencies, this toolkit proposes five core components of a health equity strategic plan.  It outlines considerations, resources, and state examples to inform Medicaid stakeholders undertaking agency-wide health equity efforts.

Advancing Health Equity is a three year initiative consisting of the Institute for Medicaid Innovation (IMI), University of Chicago, and Center for Healthcare Strategies (CHCS). The project is working to identify best practices, innovative initiatives, and policy recommendations for integrating payment and healthcare delivery reforms that seek to eliminate health and healthcare disparities and achieve equity by partnering Medicaid managed care organizations directly with state Medicaid agencies and healthcare provider organizations. It is made possible by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
