IMI kicks off nationwide campaign with powerful community conversations in Washington, D.C.

On Friday, May 8, 2026 community members, people with lived experience, local Medicaid leaders, and advocates came together in Washington, D.C. for two inspiring community engagement events designed to spark conversation, share personal stories, and connect people to Medicaid resources and support.

Presented by the Institute for Medicaid Innovation, the events marked the official launch of Voices for Medicaid. Real Stories. Real Impact., a yearlong, nationwide campaign focused on raising awareness about Medicaid and the vital role it plays in the lives of millions of Americans.

The first campaign stops took place at Mary’s Center Petworth and HIPS. Nearly 200 people engaged with more than 30 volunteers and community partners through interactive activities, educational resources, and meaningful one-on-one conversations. Attendees participated in a Medicaid Myth vs. Fact game, received materials in English and Spanish, and learned more about eligibility, enrollment, and available services through the nation’s safety net health insurance program.

Community members asked important questions about how to apply for Medicaid, what documentation is needed, and how to navigate the enrollment process. With an enrollment specialist on site, several individuals were able to enroll in Medicaid during the event itself.

Next stops are planned for Houston, TX and Birmingham, AL in summer, bringing more opportunities for communities to share their voices, ask questions, and access trusted information and support. More stops will be announced soon for the fall season!
